Integrative Psychiatry with
Dr Tiffany Sauls, MD and
Stephanie Rice, PMHNP
Many clients seek our services as a complement to their current treatment strategies, and we welcome the opportunity to work in parallel with your other providers. Our focus is on the root cause of imbalances in mental and physical health and finding strategies to decrease medication use.
Tiffany Sauls, MD (she/her) is Western North Carolina's only American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine (ABIHM) board-certified integrative psychiatrist. She has over 20 years of experience in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry in both residential and outpatient settings. Her focus has been on using the benefits of nature connection, investigating the root causes of illness, and decreasing medication use when possible. She is MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies) trained in psychedelic therapy and is both the principal investigator and site physician at the nation's first expanded access site using MDMA to treat PTSD.
Stephanie (she/her) is a dedicated Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who is passionate about a holistic and integrative approach to care. With over a decade of experience as a critical care cardiac nurse, she bridges the gap between the medical model and natural medicine. Stephanie holds a Master of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington, as well as an Associate Degree from Northwestern State University of Louisiana. She is also pursuing her 200-hr RYT yoga teacher certification to enhance mind-body integration in her practice. Life and work experiences have instilled in her a deeply rooted purpose to support the resilience of those recovering from trauma. She believes in the restorative powers of nature and community to invigorate the human mind, body, and spirit.
Initial assessments include review of records and laboratory studies from prior providers and a comprehensive in-person evaluation. Appointments are conducted outside when weather permits and may involve a short walk on our trails for interested clients. We do offer telehealth services as well. Clients can usually be seen within 2 weeks of contacting us.
Too often in western medicine, a patient is seen as separate from their surroundings. However, with an integrative medicine perspective, we see our clients as a whole person within the context of their personal history, family, community, and environment. With this perspective, we can find ways that best nourish a person's inner healer and awaken their innate capacity for self-healing.
